Timmy’s
Town Center (TTC) is a private, not-for-profit organization
formed to create a children’s museum.
With
nearly 300 children’s museums in the United States
and dozens in development both here and abroad, these inter-generational
and informal learning sites are regarded as places where
children develop essential fundamental skills; where they
are respected; where families connect in meaningfulways,
and where the creative spark of lifelong learning is often
ignited.
The
primary audience will be children from birth to age 10 and
the adults who accompany them. The focus will be on children
between the ages of 4 and 7.
The
organizing theme of TTC is the exploration of self and community
within the context of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Over time
and through relevant interactive, hands-on and minds-on
changing exhibits and programs, TTC will help young visitors,
their families and their caregivers discover what it means
to live in, care for and sustain a healthy community. The
discovery of community is both fun and work. TTC understands
play is a child’s work, and that we must make exploration
and discovery fun.
Timmy's Town Center, an Association of Children's Museums
Member, is dedicated to the creation and operation of a Children's
Museum in Northeast Pennsylvania in memory of Timmy Kelly
who died of cancer at age 5.
